Abstract

The compound magnetic-field generator was designed to simultaneously generate transverse magnetic-field and alternating parallel magnetic-field during pulsed gas metal arc welding at high welding speed. The influence of compound magnetic field on the temperature distribution was studied based on infrared camera, and droplet and arc behaviour was studied based on high-speed cameras. Results showed that the compound magnetic-field generator regulated the transverse and backward swing of arc and droplet during high-speed pulsed gas metal arc welding. Compared with normal pulsed gas metal arc welding, the heat of molten pool was trended to be transmitted to the edges of weld pool under the action of compound magnetic-field. The maximum welding speed could reach up to 2.0 m min−1.
