Abstract

Objective To observe the higher-order aberrations (HOA) induced by different types of age-related cataract. Methods A total of 103 cases (115 eyes) of cataract outpatients from the Eye Hospital of China Medical University, between February 2013 and December 2013 were recruited. The patients were divided into cortical, nuclear and subcapsular groups. The total and internal HOA of each eye were measured by iTrace visual function analyzer. Thirty cases (40 eyes) of transparent lens eyes were measured as control group. The Two Independent Samples t test and variance analysis were used to analyze the differences. Results The total and internal HOA in the three groups of cataract were all statistically higher than that of the control group, HOA induced by different types of cataract had different characteristics. Conclusions HOA may serve as an objective basis for the early evaluation of visual function and the timing of surgery for cataract patients. Key words: Age-related cataract; Higher-order aberrations, iTrace visual function analyzer
