Abstract

Hard X-rays emitted in the spark source of a mass spectrometer are analysed using an energy-dispersive solid-state Si(Li) detector. The continuum X-ray spectra are interpreted as being produced by several groups in the energy distribution of the accelerated electrons. Tentative comparison with Franzen's and Honig's explanations of the breakdown is given.
