Abstract

In this paper, we describe a gas recycling model based on atomic and molecular processes. This model assumes that hydrogen molecules cause various reactions with ions or electrons in a steady-state and uniform plasma. Enhancement of fuelling due to the recycling is evaluated on the basis of the calculated probabilities of neutral and ion production by using the rate coefficients of these reactions. For Ion cycrotron range of frequency (ICRF)-heated plasmas, the results derived from this model are compared with experimental results obtained by using pressure-balance equations and the experimental data. Good agreement is found between both results. This means that this model contributes to our understanding of the recycling mechanism in the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror device as well as in toroidal devices.
