Abstract
This work investigates the effect of surface fabric on the burning behavior of fabric assembly used by paratroopers when exposed to a heat flux of 50 kW/m2 in a cone calorimeter. Three types of surface fabrics and two types of insulative materials are considered in the present study. The surface fabric, contrary to expectations, has a marginal effect on the burning behavior of fabric assemblies as indicated by peak heat release rate, average heat release rate, and total heat release.
