Abstract

This study presents the optical study of Eu3+ doped CaAl2Si2O8 synthesized at 500 °C by solution combustion method. Photoluminescence study of CaAl2Si2O8:Eu3+shows excitation at 395 nm and 466 nm due to 4F9/2→6H15/2 and 4F9/2→6H13/2 transitions respectively, keeping excitation constant at 340 nm. Further phosphor is characterized by XRD, SEM and EDS analysis to study its phase clarity, surface structure and elemental investigation. The CIE coordinates (0.447,0.407) show its uses as a red element for White LEDs. TL intensity was measured for different γ-ray exposure and it is found that the TL intensity is peak at 1189 Gy. ML intensity increases with increasing value of impact height of the piston and gamma ray doses, which indicates the sample as a good LED and dosimetry material.
