Abstract

Electrochemical cells are fabricated with sodium as the anode and mixture of V 2O 5 + graphite powder (50:50) as cathode. Dry and plasticized polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based electrolytes were employed in the above cells. Fluorine and chlorine gases were allowed through the cathode surface, the resulting galvanic effects were monitored. The working of the sensor and its limitations are explained. From the results, some basic performance of a gas sensing property like high sensitivity, rapid response, reproducibility, high selectivity, and merits are also discussed.
