Abstract

Measurement of electrical series resistance (RS) of an IMPATT diode is very essential, because when it is higher than the negative resistance of the device, then the oscillation will cease. Thus the objective of this paper is to analyze the relationship exist among RS of Ka-band SDR-IMPATT diode, the oscillatory threshold current (Ith) and the designated frequency (fsh). The fsh and the Ith of Ka-band SDR-IMPATT diode is measured experimentally and the value of RS obtained has a very good agreement with manufacturer's data. The results show that the proposed method is able to compute the RS of an IMPATT diode.
