Abstract

Effect of dielectric superstrate on the resonance frequency of patch antenna was analyzed, first by keeping the dielectric constant of the superstrate constant and varying the thickness of the superstrate. A monotonic decrease in resonant frequency was observed. Similarly by keeping the thickness of the dielectric superstrate constant and by varying the dielectric constant shift in resonance frequency was tabulated. A direct relationship between resonance frequency and dielectric constant was made using mat-lab curve fitting tool. The equation formed was used for measuring the dielectric constant of unknown sample. And finally the effect of designed frequency of the patch antenna while considering the dielectric superstrate was analyzed. various antennas were designed in ADS and for each antenna the shift in resonant frequency was observed with change in dielectric constant of the superstrate keeping the thickness of the superstrate constant. A direct relationship between designed frequency of antenna, dielectric constant of the superstrate and shifted frequency with the presence of superstrate was made using mat-lab curve-fitting tool.
