Abstract
In this paper study of the effect of transverse open crack on natural frequencies of Euler Bernoulli cantilever beam has been done. Mathematical modeling has been done using flexibility approach. Flexibility at crack location is calculated using fracture mechanics approach. Natural frequencies for first six modes are obtained for different crack locations and crack sizes. It is observed that when crack size increases for a given crack location, the natural frequencies for the beam decrease. For a crack size with variable crack location, natural frequency has less effect near the node.
