Abstract
The current article highlights the facile synthesis and catalytic performance of α-Fe2O3@Au (core-shell) nanocomposite. Nanosized α-Fe2O3 was synthesized by homogeneous precipitation of Fe(OH)3 followed by hydrothermal heating employing CTAB as the stabilizer. Modification of the nano α-Fe2O3, with gold, resulted in the nanohybrid. Characterization studies of the nanocomposite α-Fe2O3@Au (core–shell) were accomplished using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and vibrating sample magnetometry. The synthesized composite α-Fe2O3@Au (core–shell) was explored for its catalytic action in the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohols. This nanohybrid showed magnificent catalytic performance up to five times reuses. The XRD and TEM investigations of the recycled catalyst reveal phenomenal resemblance to that of the fresh catalyst.
