Abstract

Society has been going through a process of evolution in all sectors, including in biotechnology with the improvement of dressings for skin wounds. Thus, the main objective of this research is to produce chitosan membranes with the incorporation of the extract of the stem bark of Anacardium occidentale L., aiming at obtaining a biomaterial with therapeutic potential in wound healing. For the study, membranes were prepared without and with incorporation of the hydroalcoholic extract of Anacardium occidentale L., and in different concentrations. The membranes were subjected to characterizations, in terms of qualitative macroscopic analysis, thickness, swelling, contact angle and surface tension. The membranes are similar in terms of homogeneity, transparency and flexibility, and are partially hydrophilic. As for the chemical and physical characteristics, they were compatible for a biomaterial with a curative purpose.
