Abstract

A set of zinc ferrite samples with ZnFe2O4 chemical composition were synthesized in 400, 500, and 1100°C using conventional solid state synthesis method. The X-ray diffraction pattern of all the three samples was studied at room temperature. This diffraction pattern confirmed the existence of a single-phase cubic spinel structure with lattice parameters of 8.451, 8.448, and 8.437Å, respectively. Oxygen position and cation distribution of the samples between the tetrahedral site, A and the octahedral site, B were examined using R-Factor method. The results showed that cation distribution of zinc ferrite samples changes from a normal spinel mode into a mixed spinel mode with the decrease of particle size. Moreover, the ratio of zinc divalent cations migrating from the tetrahedral site to the octahedral site was calculated.
