Abstract

Denzil Ibbotson discusses the subject matter, objectives, materials and sources, methodologies, and utilities of anthropological research. Some of the useful objectives are to study the diversities, similarities and uniqueness in local dialects, traditions of a caste, religious/semi-religious ceremonies and social customs like marriage ceremonies. For such a vast subject matter, two different methodologies should be followed, one for the fact collection and the other for analysis. The local administrative officers in different departments such as forest, police, or revenue could act as collectors. Professors and doctors with special anthropological training could be analysers. Anthropology as an optional subject should be introduced at the periodical examinations of the officers and set up the chair of anthropology in universities.
