Abstract
To analyse the anhannonicity in the a 2BX 6 type hexahelometallate crystals, such as K 2SnCl 6, K 2ReCl 6, (NH 4) 2 SnCl 6 and (NH 4) 2 SnBr 6, the third order elastic constants, pressure derivatives of second order elastic constants, Grüneisen parameter and thermal expansion coefficient of these crystals have been calculated using the inter-ionic potential model consisting of long range coulomb and three body interaction, and short range overlap repulsion effective upto the second nearest neighbour ions. The theoretical results have been compared with the experimental values and a fairly good agreement has been obtained.
