Abstract

Homogeneous shear flow and forward-facing step flow are studied numerically using the k-e model based on a statistically derived nonequilibrium eddy- viscosity representation. In this model, the usual k-e model is extended to include the nonequilibrium effect through the Lagrange derivative of the eddy viscosity. Various computed turbulence quantities are compared with the direct numerical simulation data and the numerical results from the conventional k-e model. The comparison shows that the present model gives reasonable results for the major characteristic properties of the homogeneous shear and forward-facing step flows.
