Abstract
This paper presents a study on a modified miniature planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) with a small ground plane mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) of a mobile phone handset (40mm/spl times/100 mm), operating at 2.45 GHz. Its dimension is reduced to 5 mm /spl times/ 23 mm /spl times/ 4 mm. While inheriting the attractive features of PIFAs, such as low profile, easy fabrication and low cost, the modified miniature antenna exhibits low coupling to the PCB.
