Abstract

A new kind of coaxial vircator with a three-mirror quasi-optical resonate cavity is proposed and studied in this paper. Theoretical study and particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation are both included. Through two-and-a-half-dimensional PIC code MAGIC, using an input voltage pulse with peak value of 600 kV the average voltage obtained on the diode is 460 kV and the diode current is 50 kA, the instantaneous output power with peak value over 4 GW and the average power 2 GW are obtained with frequency 7.0 GHz. The beam-wave conversion efficiency is reaching 8.7%.
