Abstract

The bus location system is an important system that eliminates the concern that the passengers do not know whether the bus will come. Therefore, there are a lot of research. Many of the systems currently in use mobile phone lines and require line charges. We are studying a bus location system using LoRa to reduce line usage charges. Although LoRa is considered to be optimal from the viewpoint of cost and transmission distance, there are some problems such as limitations in the payload size, interference by buildings in urban areas and so on. This paper proposes a GPS data compression method which is applied to a bus location system using LoRa. For the validation of the proposed method, bus location information was collected by a LoRa gateway installed at the library center of Kanazawa Institute of Technology. From results of the experiment, we confirmed that bus locations were captured correctly for the whole length of the central route of a local community bus “Notty” in Nonoichi City, Ishikawa, Japan.
