Abstract

The structure of the peculiar excited levels in 12C and 160 are investigated by analysing the decay widths of these levels which have- been usually assumed to have the linear chain like structure of the a: particles. In the analyses of the decay widths all the two body break up channels are taken into considerations. The theoretical calculations of the reduced width amplitudes are done by using the Bloch-Brink type wave functions. For 12 C, the comparison between the theory and experiments showed that the pure linear chain configuration is in appropriate to explain the large experimental widths. On the other hand, for 16 0, the present experimental informations on widths are understood not to be inconsistent with the assump tion of the linear chain structure.
