Abstract

Observing the challenges and care dynamics experienced by emergency room (ER) nurses and physicians caring for patients with mental health and substance use disorders (SUDs), who noted that these patient populations are typically time‐ and energy‐intensive, researchers of a new study on ER staff acknowledge that broad public and institutional changes are needed to deliver better ER care for behavioral health patients. The study is considered the largest qualitative study on this issue conducted with physicians and nurses, they stated.
