Abstract

The Wulukou station of subway No. 6 is located in Chongqing city, which has a crossing section of 326 m2 and a span of 24.54 m. The maximum of buried depth is about 14m, and the minimum one is about 4m. An improved method of tunnel construction was put forward for the typical tunnels with shallow buried depth and large crossing section, which was named as interlaid rock wall method. The numerical simulation and field monitoring were introduced together to verify the feasibility of the improved method by comparing the double side drift method. Some results have been obtained as following. The safety during tunnel construction can be ensured with the interlaid rock wall method. The improved construction method was more effective than the conventional one as double sides drift method. Therefore, the interlaid rock wall method is very suitable for the kind of tunnel with shallow buried depth and large crossing section.
