Abstract

Post-Studio Art: the designation occupies a relatively brief period bounded by a past when artists, as makers of things, required a particular kind of secluded and solitary workspace, and a present when they are making things again within such spaces. The Getty-masterminded Pacific Standard Time (PST), which links a range of art institutions across Southern California in a celebration of local art history between the years 1945 and 1980, provides a unique opportunity to revisit this interim moment—can we call it an interregnum?—while connecting the dots between its origins and aftermath.
