Abstract
Alkali cellulose was treated with sodium monochloroacetate in Werner, shredder and ageing vessel. After xanthation, it was dissolved and spun by normal process, and there were no apparent difficulties. γ-value of carboxymethylated alkali cellulose was lower than in the normal one, but it can be dissolved easily by caustic soda.Viscose rayon containing carboxymethyl residue has a few different mechanical properties from normal, but its Cu, Hg, and Al salts are resistant to fungi and have high wet strength.
