Abstract

In order to extend systematically the available information on the triple orthoarsenates, some new divalent and lanthanide ion containing thorium compounds have been synthesised and structurally examined. Their X-ray diffraction patterns were scanned and found to be characteristic of either monoclinic monazite or tetragonal zircon structure. The unit cell parameters are reported, which indicate a regular decrease when the mass of lanthanide increases. Infrared spectroscopic studies were also carried out and the major assignments of the vibrational bands have been made as a supplementary evidence.
