Abstract

Poly(methyltetraphenylphenylsilylene-co-1,4-bis(methylphenylsilyl)phenylene) (PSP) were synthesized by the cocondensation reaction of methyltetraphenylphenyldichlorosilane and 1,4-bis(chloromethylphenylsilyl)benzene with sodium in toluene. The optical and conducting properties of the polymer were investigated. Because of the introducing of tetraphenylphenyl groups to the Si atoms of the polymer, the ultraviolet (UV) absorption wavelengths of the PSP red-shift significantly in the UV region, and a strong photoluminescence band can be observed at visible region. Treatment of the films of PSP with I 2 vapor afforded conducting films.
