Abstract
Kwa B. H., 1972. Studies on the sparganum of Spirometra erinacei—II. Proteolytic enzyme(s) in the scolex. International Journal for Parasitology, 2: 29–33. The presence of proteolytic enzyme(s) in the scolex of the sparganum of S. erinacei was demonstrated by a biochemical assay. By using a histochemical technique, the protease(s) was shown to be localized in the region of the tegument. No proteolytic activity could be detected within the medullary region of the scolex. Furthermore, the enzyme(s) was thermolabile and was destroyed by formalin fixation.
