Abstract

The results of studies of intestinal active transport of sugars by hamster intestine with H 2 18O, glucose-2- 18O, and 2-C-hydroxymethyl- D-glucose exclude as intermediate steps in the transport process those reactions which involve the removal or transfer of oxygen at carbon-2 of the sugar molecule or which require the presence of carbon-bound hydrogen at the same position.
