Abstract

In Japan, staurolite has been known only as a component of xenolith in the andesite from Nijo-san, Nara Pref., and of metamorphic rock from the Abukuma district., On surveying the geology of the Hida district, new locality of the mineral was lately found by the writers at Unazuki, Toyama Pref., As is shown in the geological map (Fig., 1) the staurolite bearing schist occurs along the marginal zone of migmatite mass, as a narrow belt stretching obliquely across the key bed of limestone in the district., The staurolite schist is composed chiefly of quartz, plagioclase, staurolite, cyanit and garnet, accompanied with later-formed sillimanite and andalusite., The petrographical features of the rock are described in detail with microscopical sketches., The staurolite, sillimanite and andalusite in the rock were considered to be metasomatic product at the later stage of migmatisation.,
