Abstract

Before investigating the effects of calcium nitrate alone in solution upon the rate of root-hair elongation of Georgia collard seedlings, it is desirable to record their behavior under somewhat more standard conditions, such as in distilled water, tap water, and in Knop's solution, respectively. Readings (table 2) of the lengths of two aquatic root hairs on each side of a radicle in each of these media were taken at ten-minute intervals for three hours. The Knop's solution was prepared as previously (3) described.
