Abstract

Start Codon Targeted Polymorphism (SCoT) is a novel gene-targeted marker with the advantages of both ISSR and RAPD. In this experiment, the SCoT analysis was conducted to identify genetic relationship between diploid strawberry species distributed in China. The results were analyzed by the genetic symmetric coefficients and UPGMA cluster analysis. It proved that F. nilgerrensis was the most ancient species of all diploid Fragaria species. Fragaria nubicola had relatively close relationship with F. vesca and F. mandschurica, but was, genetically, far from other diploid species. F. vesca perhaps was the origins of most diploid species in Fragaria except F. nilgerrensis. F. pentaphylla had plentiful diversities, and was in the middle way of the evolution from F. vesca or F. mandschurica to F. viridis.
