Abstract

A technique for the removal of the dorsal bodies in Agriolimax reticulatus is reported. Dorsal body removal has no effects on spermatogenesis or on the male accessory sex organs (prostate gland and penial mass). The maturation of oocytes is slowed down resulting in an increased number of small oocytes and few large oocytes. Development of the female accessory sex organs (oviducal and albumen gland) is also greatly retarded. It is suggested that the dorsal bodies produce a hormone that promotes maturation of the oocytes and differentiation and growth of the female accessory sex organs.
