Abstract

We have studied on sizes of high pressure Mullen type's bursting strength testing machine and qualities of rubber diaphragm that have an effect on measurement errors, and on standard materials to correct o difference between the testing machines.Obtained results were as follows : (1) The size of under pressing disk in the commercial testing machines is different and it makes the measurement erroneous. But there is no distinct provision for this size in the Japanese Industrial Standard.(2) The qualities and sizes of the rubber diaphragm should be indicated after the size of the testing machine is provided precisely, because an expanding pressure of the rubber diaphragm is related to the size of the testing machine.(3) Use of such a material as soft Al foil having a great elongation to correct the difference between the testing machines will cause more of errors.(4) Since this testing machine has an intention of measuring the bursting strength of fiberboard, corrugated fiberboard etc., the standard material having the similar elongation has to be used to correct the difference between the testing machines, thereby, the requirement for the quality of the rubber diaphragm will be alleviated.(5) If a commercial paper as the standard material is cut out long in machine direction with short width, it will conform to the purpose of use.
