Abstract

Pure bisthiourea cadmium chloride (BTCC) and 1mol% l-alanine mixed bisthiourea cadmium chloride (LABTCC) single crystals are grown by slow evaporation method. The grown crystals are characterized by single crystal XRD analysis, powder XRD analysis, FT-IR analysis, UV–vis–NIR analysis and second harmonic generation (SHG) studies. From the XRD analysis the crystalline nature of the materials is confirmed. The addition of l-alanine changes the crystal structure from orthorhombic to tetragonal. The presence of various functional groups present in the pure BTCC and LABTCC crystals has been confirmed by FT-IR analysis. The UV–vis–NIR spectrum shows the transmission characteristics of the crystals. The SHG study shows the nonlinear optical efficiency of the crystals.
