Abstract

Crown gall of grapevine, caused by Rhizobium vitis (Ti) (=Agrobacterium vitis (Ti), A. tumefaciens biovar 3), is the most important bacterial disease of grapevine throughout the world, but there is neither an effective control method nor a rapid and simultaneous diagnostic method. I will describe the development of diagnosis method based on multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), phylogenetic analysis of R. vitis strains and biological control of grapevine crown gall using R. vitis (nonpathogenic) strain VAR03-1.
