Abstract

The shoot apiees of mature embryos and seedlings 30, 60, 100 and 144 h after seed wetting studied in 4 species of Umbellifers showed that cytohistological zonation is not related to size shape or age of the shoot apex. The peripheral zone is the first to appear. Its development is not Conneeted with foliage leaf initiation. The axial tunica and corpus cells are lightly chromophilic. The eentral mother cells divide and contribute to the peripheral and pith zones. Pith rib meristem is the last to develop.
