Abstract

Histologic formation of the bifurcation region in multirooted teeth was studied in marmosets. Migrating epithelial cells from the distal and lingual surfaces of developing teeth formed an incomplete epithelial diaphragm. Mesenchymal cells of dental papilla, but not of dental sac, destroyed the epithelial continuity. The cord thus formed proliferated into a multilayered structure and initiated root formation.
