Abstract

Summary. Vaucheria plants collected from a ditch near Crowland and from the River Cherwell at Oxford in the first week of October 1970 were identified as V. dichotoma Ag. A nutrient medium is described which allows the growth and the production of organs of sexual reproduction of this alga. Preliminary studies on the control with diquat show that it must be exposed to a concentration of 2 mg/1 for 6 h for the herbicide to be effective. The presence of mud reduces the rate at which chlorophyll disintegrates and hastens the inactivation of diquat. Etudes sur la biologie et la destruction de Vaucheria dichotoma.
