Abstract

Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a transparent polymer often used in optical devices. In the present study magnetic cobalt (Co) nanoparticles have been embedded in PMMA film matrix followed by non magnetic silver (Ag) nanoparticles deposition as overcoat to obtain PMMA/Co/Ag magnetic nanocomposite film. The PMMA film was prepared from PMMA solution by spin coating on float glass. Cobalt (Co) nanoparticles layer of 10 nm thick was embedded in PMMA film using ion beam sputtering (IBS) technique. An overcoat of 4 nm silver nanoparticles (Ag) was then deposited using IBS to obtain PMMA/Co/Ag film. GIXRD record shows peaks of PMMA as well as of Co and Ag metal nanoparticles. The particle sizes of Co and Ag nanoparticles are found to be about 3.25 nm and 4.74 nm respectively. Both Co and Ag are found to be in the metallic form. Magnetic measurements were done using longitudinal magneto-optical Kerr effect (L-MOKE). The coercivity value of the sample was found to be 180.07 Oe.
