Abstract

The hybrid type of polymer nanocomposites based on Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/Poly(vinyl) pyrrolidone (PVP) with tin oxide (SnO) have been prepared by simple solution casting method. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been employed to elucidate the successful incorporation of SnO nanoparticles (NPs) in the PVA/PVP blend matrix. The increase in the crystalinity of the polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) by the addition of SnO nanoparticles concentration up to 3 wt. % of SnO has been confirmed by the PXRD analysis. The FTIR analysis implied the presence of hydrogen bonding interaction between SnO and the PVA/PVP blend matrix. SEM results revealed that SnO nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed in the PVA/PVP blend matrix. From the dielectric properties, it had been observed that 1 wt. % SnO added PNCs showed the high dielectric constant values at lower frequencies. The curves of argand plot at various temperatures were incomplete semicircles indicating the non-Debye behaviour. In modulus analysis, the height of the peak has been decreased by addition of SnO nanoparticles in the polymer matrix which confirms the non-Debye nature.
