Abstract

Examination of the type material of several enigmatic species of spirostreptoid millipeds named by F. KARSCH in 1881 results in the following nomenclatorial changes: Spirostreptus abstemius KARSCH, heretofore thought to be a Cuban species, is referable to the Andean genus Anethoporus as a senior synonym of Archispirostreptus guayrensis SILVESTRI, 1896 and Metagonocoelius ornatus VERHOEFF, 1941, both names based on material taken in Venezuela. Alloporus impatulus KARSCH is a senior synonym of Ophistreptus rugosus ATTEMS, 1914. Spirostreptus subpartitus KARSCH is referable to Doratogonus as a senior synonym of Alloporus falcatus ATTEMS, 1928. Spirostreptus cavicollis KARSCH is placed in Orthoporus as a senior synonym of S. antillanus POCOCK, 1894, O. grenadae CHAMBERLIN, 1918, and Gymnostreptus klagesi VERHOEFF, 1941. Spirostreptus sulcanus KARSCH is a valid species which does not correspond well to any existing generic categories, the new genus Principestreptus is proposed for its accomodation. Spirostreptus astrictus, based on a female specimen, is referable to the harpagophorid genus Apoctenophora (HOFFMAN & HOWELL, 1981).
