Forty two species and two varieties of silica-scaled chrysophytes have been identified by means of transmission electron microscopy, nine of them belonging to Paraphysomonadaceae and thirty-five to Synurales. Chrysosphaerella longispina, Spiniferomonas abei, Paraphysomonas eiffelii, Mallomonas maculata, M. lelymene, M. pumilio, M. eoa, M. torquata, Tesselaria lapponica, Synura bjoerkii are reported for the first time in China. Chrysosphaerella longispina, Mallomonas punctifera, M. multiunca, M. torquata, Tesselaria lapponica, Synura bjoerkii are distributed in the northern temperature region. The geographical distribution and ecological characteristics of the silica-scaled chrysophytes collected from these regions are discussed.
