Abstract

Over 1500 bacteria have been identified to generic level within the bounds of Skerman's key (Skerman, Guide to the Identification of the Genera of Bacteria, 1967). A method of recording the characteristics of each isolate on a computer card is presented, together with a procedure for obtaining identification with the aid of a computer.
