Abstract

Cross reconstitution was conducted to compare the protein compositions of Z-disks between rabbit and chicken myofibrils. Incubation was conducted with proteins released from rabbit myofibrils by Cat2+-activated factor (CAF) with Z-disk-extracted chicken myofibrils or with proteins released from chicken myofibrils by CAF with Z-disk-extracted rabbit myo-fibrils. In both cases, reconstitution was successful, and the degree of cross reconstitution of Z-disk was lower than that of Z-disk reconstituted by incubating proteins released from rabbit myofibrils with Z-disk-extracted rabbit myofibrils. A difference was not detected in protein composition of intact and Z-disk-extracted fiber bundles of the rabbit and chicken. However, some difference was observed in the com-position of proteins released from myofibrils by CAF between the two sources in gels electro-phoresed in a denaturing solvent of sodium dodecyl sulfate.
