Abstract

Aspects of the chemistry of the radicals (CF 3) 2N·O· and (CF 3) 2N· ; of the diradical ·O·N(CF 3)·CF 2·CF 2·N(CF 3)·O· ; of the NON compound (CF 3) 2N·O·N(CF 3) 2 ; of the aza-olefin CF 3·N:CF 2 ; of the nitroso-compound CF 3NO ; and of the hydroxylamine (CF 3) 2NOH are surveyed. Special attention is given to the novel chemistry often displayed, including formation of unusual ring structures ; rearrangement reactions ; the synthesis and properties of aromatic, aliphatic and heterocyclic compounds containing the (CF 3)2N·O- or (CF 3) 2N- group ; the (CF 3) 2N·O- derivatives of silicon and sulphur ; the nitroxy derivatives of platinum and iridium ; and the use of (CF 3) 2NOH as a trap for carbocations.
