Abstract

Kinetics of the reactions of imidazole with μ-oxo-bis(tetrakis( p-sulfophenyl)porphyrinatoiron(III)), [(FeTPPS) 2O], and μ-oxo-bis(tetrakis( p-trimethylammoniumphenyl)porphyrinatoiron(III)), [(FeTAPP) 2O], were investigated at 30°C and 0.1 F (NaNO 3) ionic strength. The compound (FeTPPS) 2O reacts at least forty times faster than (FeTAPP) 2O. From the pH dependence of this reaction, the reacting ligand species is inferred to be imidazolium ions. Rate laws and possible mechanisms of these reactions are discussed. Spectrophotometric titration was employed to determine the equilibrium constants of these reactions.
