Abstract

Abstract An investigation of the rate of decomposition of benzoyl peroxide by ferrous ion in ethanol has been made. The rate of the reaction was linearly proportional to the concentrations of benzoyl peroxide and ferrous ion, in accordance with Haber-Weiss one electron transfer mechanism. But the apparent decomposition rate was of the first order. The Arrhenius equation was k1=2.2×1011exp(−14,210⁄RT)mol−1 1. sec−1.
