Abstract

The use of natural materials for the synthesis of energy devices has been on a rise since last decade. In this regard, the use of natural dyes for application in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) is not only cost-effective but also beneficial for the environment in the long run. In this regard, natural dyes have been extracted from over ten flowers and their absorption characteristics have been studied. Additionally, a combination of few flowers according to their absorption spectrum was used as a natural dye in DSSC to assess its light harvesting capability. Although, the generated potential was poor, the device was able to generate reasonable current, of ∼ 100 µA.cm-2.
