Abstract

Six peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) cultivars representing Virginia, Spanish and Valencia subspecies var. hypogaea, var. vulgaris and var. fastigiata, respectively, were experimented in 1993 and 1994 on the experiment field of Akdeniz University, Agriculture Faculty, Field Crops Department in Antalya to determine seasonal dry matter accumulation and dry matter partitioning, leaf area index (LAI) development, reproductive efficiency estimated by harvest index (HI), nodüle production and some pod and seed characters. Results from this study indicated that differences in partitioning of total dry matter between vegatative and reproductive organs explained most of the yield differences between cultuvars Virginia type cultivars accumulated more root, leaf and pod dry matter than other type cultivars during the growth and development stages. Valencia cultivar had the least yield capapility by accumulation more assimilat in the vegetative organs (stems) than reproductive organs (pods). Virginia type cultivars produced at least 50% greater nodule mass than Spanish and Valencia type cultivars.
