Abstract

The morphological and biochemical characters of various species of Moraxella were studied, and a simple keys for identification was devised. The results obtained were as following:1. All species of Moraxella were nonmotile, no action to all carbohydrates, and oxidase positive. Therefore, genus Moraxella may be distinguished from other general by morphology, motioity, O-F test and oxidase test.2. Moraxella bovis and Moraxella lacunata were differentiated from other Moraxella species by gelatinase test. M. bovis was differentiated from M. lacunata by hemolysis of horse blood.3. Moraxella osloensis which does not produce gelatinase, was distinguished from M. non-liquefaciens by the growth on MacConkey agar, a-hemolysis and the growth in peptone water. M. phenylpyruvica was distinguished from other Moraxella species by phenylalanine deaminase.4. These methods of identification of Moraxella, can be used in routine laboratory procedures.
